OK , so it isn't technically an IAAF certified pole vault event, but since people vaulted on a Pub Roof last week and another gang is going to vault underground in a Sandstone mine in Crystal City , MO this coming weekend, why can't the Dutch sport of 'fierljieppen' or canal jumping be included on our blog? After all many of the same skills are required, speed, coordination, fearlessness, sense of adventure, little regard for you own well being. Furthermore the pole seems to be rather rigid and the landing pit is definitely mid 20th century.

This second youtube link covers a multitude of jumps and shows what can go wrong in this event.
