V 13 N. 86 The Track and Field Events of Day 9 at the World Championships 2023
Men's 5000m Final - Sunday, August 27
OUTV's panel has decided that Jakob Ingebrigtsen gets vote for athlete of the day for his overcoming the disappointment of his loss in the 1500M. I could never be certain what was going to happen here. Was he just hanging on but not feeling great like he claimed to be in the 1500 or was being the cagiest guy on the track. He gets the cagey nod by cranking a 52.45 last lap and out running Katir in the last 30 or 40 meters. Not a bad day. My picks, Nordas 14th and Grijalva 4th remind me to stay out of the online gaming sites.

Women's 800m Final - Sunday, August 27
Athing Mu after getting into some bumping and/or stumbling trouble in the semi decided to go out and lead from the start. Moraa hung tough and came back in the home straight and Hodgkinson who ran very boxed in most of the race but as things stretched out in the end she saw an opening on the inside of Mu and came through but could not catch Moraa.

Men's Javelin Throw Final Results
The Indian subcontinent including Pakistan have shown incredible improvement in the event and this championship was no exception. I wonder if these guys were inspired by the Indian film when it was released about Milkah Singh the great 400 meter runner of the sixties. Chopra has more internet followers than any other athlete. Noah Lyles should have a sit down with him.

Women's 4x400m Final
From one of our regular readers who wishes anonymity:
"I found Bol's anchor split when she overcame a 20 yard deficient by running a 48.4 split. Hard to compare with Norway's 5,000 guy but at least she gets the woman athlete of the day if not "the" athlete of the day."
