Wilson Kiprugut, the first Kenyan to win an Olympic medal passed away on November 2, 2022.   He won the bronze at 800 meters in 1964 and followed that with a silver in 1968.  He was part of that early contingent of Kenyans just beginning to blossom on the international scene with Kip Keino just missing out in 1964 but coming on in the 1500, 5000 and steeplechase in 1968 and 1972. along with Mike Boit in in the 800  '72.

Thus the dynasty began and it was Wilson Kiprugut who could always claim to have been the first.
