V 14 N. 51 The Track Blog Gets It's One Millionth Hit Today July 27, 2024

To all of you who read this blog and to those who  stumble across it while looking for a cheap motel  or washing machine repairman.   This is to let you know we have reached a milestone.

Today we  got our one millionth hit on Once Upon a Time in the Vest.

That's an average of 5747 per month for 174 months or 191 per day.  Way short of being a social media "influencer" who gets much more  in one day, but we're a niche market.  Anyway, thanks to all of you 145  folks on our mailing list. Much of what appears on our pages is what you have written or ideas you have contributed, so pat yourselves on the back. Roy and I appreciate your loyalties and the ideas and suggestions you have written directly to us or onto the comments section.   Here are the numbers below as they appear today.

We started this thing based on a mutual friendship with Steve Price when we had a three way handwritten correspondence between Roy Mason in Ukiah, CA,  Steve  in the kingdom of Bahrain, and George in  Marondera, Zimbabwe where we were each located in 1984.  The three of us were only ever together three times in our lives.   So thank you to our English teachers back in the 1950's, who taught us about comma splices, subjunctive mood, and naughty limericks.   Initially the blog posts were based on Roy's hilarious synopses of his old issues of Track and Field News, but when he consumed his collection we had to look beyond that world and the blog evolved from there.  We were never good at marketing and promotion, and had we tried to go that route, we probably would have folded in short order.

Thanks to all of you who have contributed regularly and some only on occasion but to all including Paul O'Shea, Mike Tymn, Bob Phillips, Gary Corbitt, Richard Mach, Jeff Allen, David Foster Baskwill, J.D. Martin, Darryl Taylor, Roy Bensen, Bill Schnier, Ricky Quintana, Grace Butcher, John Perry, James Metcalf, Chuck Hunsacker, Walter Mizell,  Mike Solomon, Rick Lower, George Gray, Bill Stewart, Rich Elliott, Carol Inskeep, Susan Abuasba, John Bork, Steve Smith, Earl Young, Tom Trumpler, Jeremy Mosher, Eric Tweit, Chuck Frawley, Bill Stone, Charlie Strong, Liam Boyd-Pett, , Milt Place, Ricardo Romo, Jack Yerman, Preston Davis, Bob Roncker, Dave Elger, Jay Birmingham, Hial Genert,  Mike Waters, Don Domansky, Elliot Denman, Walt Murphy,  Russ Reabold, Russ Ebbets, Ned Price, Bruce Kritzler, Bill Blewett, David Costill, Joe Rogers, Bruce Geelhoed, Jon Little, Ernie Cunliffe, Jose Sant,  Jerome McFadden, Dennis Kavanaugh, Dr. John Telford, John Cobley, Rich Ceronie and apologies to those I've forgotten,

And certainly I want to remember those contributors who have passed away,  Steve Price, Thomas Coyne, Pete Brown, Jon Hendershott, Jim Allen, Bill Flint, Geoff Pietsch, David Bailey, Phil Scott, Ron Morris, Richard Trace, Geoff Williams, Tim Hickey, and Stephen 'Eloi' Morelock

Thank you to all,

George Brose
